Iain Lee's Late Night Alternative on TalkRADIO

    Hi

Firstly, this thread is aimed at fans of late 90's early 00's UK based phone-in radio.

I would to get an ongoing discussion thread for the recently resurrected UK Talk station - and in particular the show mentioned in the title.

The online only station has thankfully come along to offer something a little different to all the news and sports based UK talk stations out there. And by far the biggest draw on the station's schedule is Iain Lee's Late Night Alternative - weeknights from 10. I've been a huge fan of Lee's radio shows since 2006, and I highly recommend it. I would try and explain how the show works - but I could never do it justice. I would just suggest you give it a listen. Some will get it; some won't.

Other highlights on the station include some rare appearances from veteran broadcaster - and pretty much a master of the format - Tommy Boyd, who recently filled-in the 10-1am slot for a week as Iain was away. It would be great if Tommy got his own show on the station - even if it's just a weekend evening slot. He's far too good not be on the radio.

So yeah, would love to get a bit of discussion going on this.

Just listening to classic tinfoil-wearing foolery on The Unexplained with Howard Hughes right now.

Yep. Scheduled to return tonight at 10. Wasn't too bothered about the jungle stuff myself - but by all accounts, he did alright.

I used to listen to the Whale back in the old TalkSport days - before he got the sack.. His definitely got some interesting views - surprisingly liberal on certain issues and not so much on others.. Think his back later in the week, feat. Ash.

George does his political thing. Listening to him is sometimes akin to attending a People Before Profits meet-up: alright in small doses.

Have a Roberts internet radio, and just checking if Iann Lee is on Talksport or talksport 2 ?
Talksport seems to be "Silent" during sports commentaries which is understandable.
I am sure that I can listen on Sky if I wanted.

No, Talksport and Talksport 2 are different station owned by the same company... Iain is on Talkradio - it's not really about sport. I listen on my phone or laptop - not sure if DAB in Ireland picks it up- but quite tonline

    I just downloaded the app.
I prefer radio to TV so this suits me perfectly.

Did you hear the really confused "What is your why?" lady? She was either drunk or mad, or both.

And yes, Iain is the best radio broadcaster on the air - bar maybe Tommy Boyd.

I must give this show a try.

I remember the original Talk Radio on 1053/1089 am - Caesar The Geezer, Nick Abbot, Ian Collins, and Tommy Boyd among others at different times.

I only really know Iain Lee from television but I know he is highly regarded as a Radio Presenter.

Yeah, if you liked all that - you might just love this.

Incidentally Collins and Abbot are still knocking about somewhere... but they are really dull now... especially Collins

Yeah, I downloaded Nick Abbot's podcast recently and it was a million miles from the late night shows I loved in the early 90s

I'll definitely give Iain Lee a go, thanks for starting the thread.

Yeah. I still have a soft spot for Nick - I have a load of his old shows on MP3... but it's hard listening to him continuously banging on about Trump and Brexit.

Anyways, have a listen. Hope you enjoy :)

Nick abott and Ian colins share the same time of 10pm nightly on lbc. Nicks ok but its just trump and brexit the last year or so. Ians good enough but a more political current affairs based show.

Tonight is straight to air calls on Iain's show - these are always spectacularly random shows.

    Very funny.
He just says the first thing that comes into his mouth.
    I'm really enjoying this.

Finally got around to listening to this over the last few nights.

Very enjoyable and refreshing to hear a freewheeling unformatted non agenda driven late night show again. It feels like it could go off at a tangent at any moment, in a good way.

I thought his NYE show was good. It took him a while to get over the hangover of I'm a Celebrity, but I felt he was getting his rhythm back.

Then he spent a lot of time on the Derek Griffiths twitter fraud thing this week - interesting to some, but felt more like his BBC Morning gig a few years ago (which was news and agenda based). He is also burning both ends with his morning show appearances on ITV, the radio show could get very interesting if he has to deal with that bellend Morgan next week.
