Any suggestions for a good reliable box for recording FreeviewHD and Saorview? Must be able to handle subtitles as I'm hard of hearing. If it included FreesatHD as well, that would be even better.

I would normally recommend the Panasonic blu-ray/DTT combi recorder for reception of both services but in this case where subtitles are required for both this won't work for Saorview.

Saorview unfortunately uses old style teletext subtitling, where Freeview uses DVB subtitles. Teletext isn't part of the UK DTT standard.

The Panasonic boxes I mention above are primarily Freeview receivers with no Ireland option, so no Saorview subtitles.

I am unable to recommend another receiver that does both.

Thanks. But subtitles are a must. I have a TalkTalk Youview box which doesn't do Saorview subtitles but does do Freeview subtitles. I can receive RTE1, RTE2 andTG4 from Brougher but the subtitles on RTE1 and RTE2 are an absolute disgrace - way behind the dialogue or just flashing up on screen for a fraction of a second so no time to read them. And RTE don't seem to be interested in fixing them. I have emailed them 2 or 3 times and they just say it's not their responsibility.

In response to a query on the satellite forum, I just checked to confirm that the Formuler F1 combo box running openATV enigma offers both subtitling systems on satellite and terrestrial.

Thanks. Have you a link to a retailer. I'm in Northern Ireland so UK retailer if possible.

Thanks. I'm a bit confused by all these options. Which do I pick? I need to be able to record. I need Freeview and Saorview. Freesat would be good too. Can I have BBC iPlayer, YouTube? Wireless connection to the internet for these? TWIN satellite tuner? Does that mean I could connect two separate dishes 28.2 and 19.2 (say) or does it just mean horizontal and vertical from one satellite? Oh, and the HDD, would that be built into the box or would it come as a separate unit?

I'm just assuming here as you are based in NI you want access to freeview and saorview which implies connection to an aerial

freesat relates to having a satellite dish pointed at 28.2

You mention the need to have subtitles well on my set up in cork I have a humax freeview hd recorder which I use to record from saorview and yes I can get subtitles, here a picture of my box and the simpsons from last night on rte 2 with subtitles
