Hi, we,ve gone and joined the 21st century, moved from trusty crt nordmende to fancy 43in toshiba, s,posed to be here next wèek.thing is, we,ve had sky tv for past 10 yrs, basic package, and we,re pretty useless at following tech advances. New telly will have freeview..whats that? Is it just for uk? Apparently it can get lots of stuff, netflix etc, is that arunner with our 5mbps internet?
I,d love a few ideas as to how to get the most from d,telly, maybe even dump sky?
    Fwiw its a toshiba 43u6763..
Oh, i love watching, listening to music on sky arts through me archaic tuner amp and speakers, this setup has lots of oldfashioned connections/wires into the old tv...can i get some kind adaptor to connect it to new tv? Thanks a mill...

OP, there’s a lot of questions and info there. This is the Cable Television forum and I’m not sure it’s cable TV you’re interested in. What I’m going to do is move this to satellite, since you have Sky, and Freesat will probably be your first call if you are looking for an alternative

New telly will have freeview..whats that?

Digital terrestrial TV in UK ...... the same tuner will receive Saorview (Irish Channels) if it is Freeview HD.

If near the border you might also receive UK TV from NI.

You need suitable aerial/s to receive those terrestrial transmissions.

Well you won't be able to dump sky and listen to music on Sky Arts.

Winston_1, I give you a lot of leeway, because your transgressions tend to be quite minor, but you can take a warning for that unhelpful contribution and your next ban is going to be five days
