What size frame for A4 photo?

This is such a stupid question but I'm asking anyway.
If I have an A4 photo and I want a frame for it, do I buy a frame that will fit those exact measurements or do I have to go up in size to allow it to fit?

A4 is a frame size, so you can just look for an A4 frame, or a 'certificate' frame. 8x12" is another option although not as good a fit.


If a frame comes with an insert/mount (like a cardboard frame, within the frame) then you buy for the mount size (but this is usually stated on the package.. ie; 8x10 mount, 10x12 frame). If it's not stated what the different size is between frame and mount, then the size will be for within the mount, rather than the frame itself.

Will hold an A4 page, but with the cream mount will stay around it.




Whereas this one tells you that it fits an 8x12 (A4) in the mount, but if you remove the mount, you can fit an 11x14 picture/certificate.

But both of those will fit your A4 page, both with the mount visible. It's personal preference whether you want the mount or not, though. Some people think they look a bit classier.
