Locomotief Tour de France touring bike for sale.

I think its 1960's era, Sturmey Archer 4 speed hub, Lycett leather sprung saddle and Lucifer/Locomotief dynamo front light.

    Also comes with pannier bags.

Tyres are shot and there's light rust on frame but it has never been messed with.

Bike is in Cork and I'm asking for €150 for it.

I can email or Viber photos, I'll try to add some to the thread later.

I like it. Kinda quirky. What size frame is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭murph226

I'll measure it in the morning but I'm 6ft and it's plenty big for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,385 ✭✭✭murph226

    Measurements:

    Top tube: 56CM

    Down tube: 59CM

    Seat tube: 56CM

Any offers on this, need the space.

Appreciate the offer but a third of the asking price is bit on the cheeky side.

    That's a beauty!

Does it always have Reynolds tubes?

I can't see any Reynolds markings anywhere, there is a sticker on the seat tube that says Robur guaranteed lightweight tubes 6LM.

As is asking €150 for a bike received for free but alas an offer it is.

It won't be Reynolds it's an entry level bike.

So do we give everything that we get for free away for nothing?

The lad that gave it to me would be glad if I got a few quid for it.

Yeah its working away but the cable could do with a squeeze I'd say, I should have really given it a once over by now but I'm balls deep in rebuilding an old house.

A good service and a pair of tyres and tubes and it's right for road.

Reynolds weren’t the only makers of quality tubes

Nope that's true probably read the entry level bit or google the bike itself.

I’m not sure what ‘entry level’ means but it’s a good quality Dutch period bike and a bit different in this part of the world for anyone interest in that kind of thing. The Roubor tubes were made in Helmond (yes, there was lots of good steel made outside of the UK). The 4-speed hub gear alone is worth a bit. I’d like it as a nice utility bike but it’s too big and I have to stop somewhere!

Price drop €100 there's an unused set of tyres for it here as well, I'm not sure how old they are though.

Id say you'd have to drop it a bit more to spark a bit of interest. Vintage Dutch period entry level rusty bikes are a niche market. Not that many conniseurs around. I'd say you will have to appeal more to the man in the street.
That said a four speed sturmey archer is just what I'd love to have hauling a laden bike with four panniers and a tent over col de tourmalet or such like. Take touring back to the bare essentials.

I'm open to offers but 50 is too low.
