Bought a pressure washer for around £135.
Went to pay and only £1 came out of my bank account.
I paid in sterling if that makes any difference???
Can anyone tell me what's going on?

That was Amazon validating your card details. Amazon doesn't actually charge until your order is ready to ship.

    Full amount taken out now.
Btw it was €6 cheaper to pay in sterling than euro.

That is always the case. It's the same when abroad when the cashier says "Select if you'd like to pay by local currency or EURO" - You always should select local currency and let YOUR bank convert it.

Often people get caught out because it seems handy to let somebody like Amazon or Paypal convert it but you always pay more.

+1 applies to every purchase when the sticker price is not in Euro, including settling your bill in a hotel when checking out. Always pay a vendor in his currency.
