Phone stuck on Powered by Android after factory reset

I have a Vodafone Smart Prime 6 phone that was on 5.0.2, but I thought I'd try out updating the OS using the built in Settings -> Update.

Seems to have been a bad choice since after doing it the phone wouldn't boot past the "Powered by Android" screen.

So I did the "Power + Vol Up" to get to the menu, and selected "Clear Cache". No change.

Then decided sod it and went for Factory Reset.

After the reset still nothing... any tips on what I could try using adb etc?

Did a fast reboot today in my Xiaomi. It got stuck so I pressed the power button again to see if it would turn off.
    It worked.

I'm gonna try to flash the stock ROM back onto the phone.

All these android ROM sites look well dodgy though.

I found this link, look legit??

Any other places I might get a clean ROM of the Vodafone Smart Prime 6 (VF-895n)?

Apologies, forgot SamMobile is Samsung only.

The only other place I can think of is NeedRom which I used a while back for an LG.

comments mention a trojan, I'll see how I get on with the first one.

What tool do I use to install it? No TWRP installation.

Damn, maybe give that file a miss or search for another one, the site itself is safe but I only recall using it once before.

If all else fails try XDA Forums, surely someone has that phone on there and has had to revert to stock ROM before.

    Best of luck.

Currently running "SUGAR" which came with the zip file I listed earlier. Connected to Shanghai... and doing *something*

    bites nails...

waiting for "all your pc are belong to us" message

OK .... after scouring about 50 different forums, in as many languages, I finally came across a version of Sugar that works, and also finally managed to get the login password.

Best download was from this page...

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-vodafone-prime-tab-7-t3548560

and FINALLY the phone boots up!

Now it's asking for the UNLOCK PIN, as opposed to the SIM card pin.... is this a Vodafone unlock code or something? I thought the phone was unlocked previously?

That's most likely the phone lock. Have you tried 0000 or 1234? Could also be 000000 or 123456. The phone should tell you how many attempts that you have.

I'll give it a shot many thanks. Says 9 attempts.

That's definitely not the Vodafone UAC lock?

I don't have the details of the original owner as I got the phone second hand so not sure how I'd apply for the Vodafone unlock.

So when I entered 000000 or 123456 it said it was "Requesting SIM unlock".

I'm guessing this must be the Vodafone NAC lock code I need?

Quick one here... I have an old Windows phone I can use until I get this Android phone unlocked again.

Is it possible for me to use Whatsapp on the Android if my SIM is in the Windows phone?
Whatsapp isn't supported on my Windows 7 phone.

Or does Whatsapp need the SIM in place?

My windows 7 phone doesn't support Revolut or Whatsapp

    BUT

I need the SIM in order to setup Revolut and Whatsapp ;)
    (receive auth SMS etc)

Also in case anyone needs to call me they can get me on the Windows phone... this will have to do until I can get into Moore st again in January to unlock the phone

Nah seems to work fine without the SIM now

Can finally get in touch with everyone... you don't realise how much you rely on your phone till it's gone!
