    I think it may be illegal. They’ve literally stated it’s a marriage of convenience. Can’t see it being allowed go ahead now

    There would have been plenty of examples of this between male and female couples also but I'd say the decision to make a public announcement wasn't a wise one!

    There's a law specifically saying you cannot marry for immigration reasons. It doesn't say anything about not marrying fox tax reasons.

    I think you need to be legally separated a number of years before you can apply for divorce.

    No. In order to get a divorce in Ireland the couple must have been separated for four years.

    that is what i meant yes and a "marriage of convenience" for tax purpose. lots may do it but they do not announce it
