    https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2017/1215/927697-tax-marriage/

"Two men who have been 'best friends' for 29 years have announced they are to get married next month in Co Tipperary.

While that in itself is not an unusual development, the story is made more interesting by the fact neither man is gay."

Well they say money can't buy you happiness, but I would like to find out for myself.

Hardly news worthy! Marriages of convenience are not a new concept!

Probably fairly new for two straight men to get married though.

I’ll check the 19C records on that.

    Edit:

Checked. Didn’t happen in the 19C. Checking the 20C now.

    Edit:

No luck in the 20C either.

I have had a nice little laugh at this!
It is a brilliant solution, for all those people who are "strangers in law" and can find no other tax efficient means to pass property.
Could be of particular interest to many as a means of avoiding the Onerous CAT thresholds for those outside bands A/B.

But surely it’s a sham marriage or it doesn’t apply as they are both Irish citizens?

When I married a foreign (in her country, granted) an official came and wanted to see that we live together, one double bed, etc. any hint of funny business and the marriage wouldn’t have been recognized.

PM dowry details there. The other fella came across as a bit of a weirdo in his reply.

    Doesn’t apply to citizens.
