I need to charge a company for a service I provided. Its only a few hundred quid. I want to be above board. I know how to report the income to revenue. I'm unsure how to charge Vat or if I do.

Does anybody know what I should do? Do I collect the Vat? And if I do how do I give it to revenue.

I won't ever need to register for vat. This isn't a stable income source and I'll only ever earn a couple of grand a year.

You dont charge vat when not vat registered.

Include name, address, PPSN, bank details. You don't/can't charge VAT as you're not VAT registered

Assuming you are already a PAYE employee - you will fill a Form 12 in (register for a myAccount online) with Revenue if the total annual nixer income is under 5k - this is relatively simple. This was recently increased from the Euro equivalent of £2.5k which is a decent increase in the headroom. This needs to be done before October '18 for income from '17 I think; either way you've got a bit of time.

You only need to pay PAYE on this if I remember correctly; PRSI isn't charged unless its over 5k additional.

If its over 5k additional you need to do a Form 11 which is comparatively complicated.

Make sure to keep enough to cover the payment, which will be quite some time after you've earned the money!
