Getting 2016 leaf from UK next week, but I will only the get v5c on a later date by post. So, if I bring the car to Ireland, can I ring the next day and get vrt appointment for a later date than normal?hoping by that time my brother would get the new logbook and post it to me straightaway. This is because the Nissan dealer who selling the leaf would only sell the car to UK address! So, keeping by brother as new buyer, as he in UK. The prob is car is coming to the country much earlier, so wondering if there will be any fines?

You get the full document from the seller on the day.
There's small tear away strip that the seller fills in and posts to the DVLA themselves, but you should be left with the remainder of the V5 document.

you will also be adding an additional owner to the cars record.

You need the full V5. I brought a car over from the UK on Monday and had the VRT appointment already arranged for Tuesday. Turned up and he checked and confirmed that all the documents were in order but he needs the V5, not just the tear-off section given to the new owner. So I'm waiting for it to be sent to my parents address in Liverpool and having them post it on to me, and will then have to arrange a new appointment for VRT inspection.

I expect then I will have to post the V5 back to DVLA stating that the car has been exported.

EDIT: it seems the dealer treated our transaction as a normal sale and didn't follow the process for a permanent export. Make it clear when you buy that the vehicle is being exported and you should come away with most of the V5 document, minus a bit that they send to DVLA to say the vehicle has been sold for export.

As it stands me new (to me) vehicle is parked up outside until sometime in January :D

It sounds like the dealer is going to post the V5 form to the DVLA which will add quite a bit of time to the process of you getting your hands on the new V5 form. That is likely to take a few weeks.

You have 30 days to get the car registered in Ireland once you drive it off the boat so I think you might struggle to complete it within that time.

Why won't the dealer give the full form? The details of exporting the car is written on the form itself so its not like its not clearly documented. I think you should go back to them and insist on them following the correct procedure as detailed on the form itself which results in you getting the full form when you pickup the car.

I bought from a Nissan dealer and once I pointed out the procedure written on the form they were OK with it. 90,000 other Irish folks will also have done this this year so its not like its a one off thing..... insist on the form and save yourself the hassle with the VRT people.

Get the full V5, if you don't you have to apply and wait for the certificate of permanent export which can take far longer than the 30 day limit. (speaking from experience)

Hi...the situation here is that, the seller who is Nissan main dealer (motorline) won't sell their cars to international buyers or non UK address buyers. Its company policy they say! But the car I saw seem to be a good deal, so I asked if they could put my brother's address as new keeper and if I can collect the car next Thursday, and they said it's fine. They will fill up the new keeper's (my brother's) details and post it to DVLA only on next Thursday when I collect the car.
So the plan is, when my brother gets the new logbook in his name in a week or so he can post it to me. Don't know if this will work out?

Are you sure it will only take a week for your brother to get it. I'd have my doubts.

Can he hold the car at his place until he gets the logbook and then you go over?

I've heard other boardies also complaining here also about this wierd policy from Motorline group.

If that's the case then Motorline are idiots...depriving themselves of turnover.

If they won't sell to you, buy elsewhere. I can recommend Cargiant, having used them twice.

Unless there’s any particular post hold up, i’d Expect it to arrive in 7 days or less.

Being the week before Christmas will add a few days but sounds like it would still be within the 30 days so.

But what about the date of sale ? On 21st Dec Thursday only they will sell the car to my brother and I will collect the car and bring it to Ireland. But the awkward thing is that car will reach Ireland before the sale happened between me and my brother! So, I think I will have to find some way to keep the car somewhere in the UK until my brother gets the new v5c:-(

    Over complicating it.
Just hand write a receipt for the date of sale to be what you need.

I done this in March after buying privately in the UK.

Did VRT not ask you for a ferry ticket? They asked me for it. Maybe each VRT centre is different.

Oh yes proof of transportation is 1 of the requirements!
