No point in having these threads OP.

There was one before asking people to chose between "King" or "Tayto".

    Tayto won ffs :mad::mad::mad:

Barry's is Irish owned, Irish produced, and makes a good strong cup of tea.

Lyons is Dutch owned, produced in Manchester, and makes a cup that resemles dish water in apparence and taste.

People who like Lyons have no taste buds.

A lot of people seem to be opting these days for fancy brit brands that always seem a little too up their own hole like Twinings.

Tasteless muck for the most part.

    Tetleys for me.

Barry's for decaf tea. Easily the best. Lyons for normal tea.

Growing up at home we always drank Barry's.

    Coffee all the way.

    Coffee drinker.

But on the few occasions I want a cup of tea, it would be Barrys over Lyons. As already mentioned, that McGrath's tea from Aldi is also grand tack.

Got into drinking Earl Grey, handy to have it if one has run out of milk. Started on Aldi Earl Grey and though I would 'upgarde' to Twinings only to find it wasn't as flavoursome as the Aldi version which is about 1/3 the price.

    Barry's.
I don't see any gin with Lyon's used in it!!!:D

(fyi, I am associated with Blackwater Distillery)

Goes well with the Aldi Fois Gras too I believe...

I used to use Bewley's up until recently when I couldn't find them in the shop so I bought Barry's. Well holy mother of god it was as though someone took my ice cold heart and gave it a warm hug. No going back now.

Lyons is just another foreign tea.Why is it still even being compared with Barrys.

Why is that not the advert ????!!!

Neither, they have little flavour and too much bitterness.
I used to drink Typhoo, but recently changed to Yorkshire tea. Lots of flavour, a bit malty when you add milk, and just all-round lovely.

    Lyons.

They usually get Barry's in work, tried it and it looked and tasted like ditchwater. Never again.

Tip: if you're on holiday and can't get Lyons look for PG Tips. Exact same stuff.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Yeah. I prefer the home grown stuff.

I often thought how loony the Americans were when they dumped out their tea into the sea. Damn right there should be a tea tax, heathens.

Fortnum & Mason's Assam for the weekend

    Leaf tea of course

Barry's. I've tried the Lyons and it's too watery for me so much that i got changed and went up to the shop to get barry's. Lyons is great if you like weak, watery tea otherwise not so much. I even found the supervalu own brand gold blend tastes nicer then the lyons.

Its the cow manure they add to it that makes it watery :pac:

Christmas orienteering suggestion for all the proud drinkers of "Irish" Barry's tea, why not go out and look for those swathes of home-grown tea plantations this weekend, maybe start in cork?

    I'll have a cup of Tetley's while you're out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,252 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

Robert Roberts tea for me. Brewed to within an inch of its life and just a tiny bit of milk.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Aldi here. Dont l8le lyons and barrys too expensive. Theyre all just tea.

There are only two types of tea. Strong tea and weak tea.

    McGraths Reserve Blend

    Grand cup of tae

I'll take whatever is going. As long as the cup isn't half filled with milk it's a fine cup of tea.

What's interesting is the preference for certain varieties of tea in Ireland ...
English breakfast: ... Originally a China black tea but now frequently includes a strong Ceylon tea component. May also include teas from Assam, Africa, and/or Indonesia.

Irish breakfast: More robust than English breakfast. Generally has a strong Assam component, giving it a malty flavor.

You should check out the last time a Co. Cork product was put up for evaluation in AH. (Hint - it was a variety of relish). The thread achieved a significant amount of red / yellow cards within the first half dozen posts....

Lyons tea is by a mile the best tasting drink in existence, Barry's is only the best of all the other rubbish brands
