Sorry about the click bait title but you literally couldn't make this up !! One of my wifes bikes, a tiddly little Honda Grom, was dropped in for a service this morning and had just had two new tires from another place near by.

She gets a call from the shop saying the bike has a puncture, they're not fixing it and they wont assist her either moving it. She's going to go and plug the tire in their car park and get this, they'll pump it up if they have time !!!

What the holy f*ck happened to bikers looking out for one another these days !! I thought this shop was one of the good ones too.

There's more than one way to plug a tyre. One way is an externally applied plug that will get you home and the other way is a permanent repair effected from the inside. I'd have no problem with a properly repaired puncture.

I agree but some would motor on with just a crappy plug.

I've been plugging tires for years, I'm fooked if I'll pay something like €25 for shop to do it.

    Feck that, plug and go.

Exactly , my missus is quite good at it and we've done it to a couple of machines over the years. It's great for getting yourself out of a fix.

    Hold on a second...

Not all punctures are repairable and as its a bike I take tyres very seriously always did.

If its a safe and repaired properly then I've no issues.

But I would guess some places are covering themselves or just looking for one to buy new it all depends.

    Think of it this way...
You get a puncture its plugged but the plug fails and you crash and die in the crash then the road and bike are examined and its found it was a plug in a tyre that failed was an issue then the person or garage that carried out said repair are found to be contributing to the accident...

    It can happen.

Ah, come on, what do you expect from there! I'd be more surprised if I got a good service! Having said that, I do like the shop inside for gear.

    Oh this get better.....

After my missus plugged her own tyre outside in their car park. One of the mechanics brings the bike off for a test drive to make sure the service is done properly. This is on the bike that they told her they wouldn't plug the tyre on because its illegal and they can't do that.

Their ass is covered. Take satisfaction from the fact the mechanic trusted her enough to do it properly and took it for a test drive.

Once had 6 plugs in a rear tyre when i worked as courier with no issues then again if i was riding a Zx10 around a track i might be worried with one.

I have had the unfortunate experience of buying 2 brand new bikes from them (I should have learned my lesson the first time) and each time they have fucked me over with regard to not wanting to make repairs UNDER WARRANTY to the 2 fucking lemons they sold me and one member of staff (who no longer works there) told lie after lie and another member of staff (who is still there) covered for him. I even got the men in suits from the head office involved and they just stopped returning my calls. Shower of arseholes. Wouldn't even buy a fucking lawnmower off them.

So overall would you recommend them if one was looking to buy a bike, or a lawnmower?.. :p

Sillyquestion maybe, but if it had new tyres when dropped it in to them, I assume they were ok?

In which case, did it pick up a puncture whilst under their care ??

No silly..they were pissed about not selling the tyres so it "got" a punture somehow..;)

There's no info here, how did the bike get a punture? I'd it was in their care ten they should be supplying a new tire..

I'd it was brought to them punctured and as a company they do not plug tyres then their reaction is perfectly justified

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,963 ✭✭✭D3V!L

We actually don't know how it got a puncture and the offending screw was pulled out and disposed off long before my wife went up to see the bike. She was then presented with a flat tyre.

Then you should have said to them they were to pay for and fit a new tyre, so the tyre did not have a puncture when it went in, they gave it a puncture by removing a screw which they had no business touching

You're dead right, I only found out about the screw being removed this evening and I'm still fuming

...in this day and age, if they put the bike on the bench and saw a screw in it, the camera phone should have come out, pic taken and sent to you and asked 'what to you want to do, choice a/b/c etc People are quicker to post a photo of the sandwich they're eating, so something like this is a no-brainer.

At the same time, insurance being what it is, if they did nothing, and your Mrs went down the road on it and it deflated/she came off, I'm quite sure we'd be reading a different kind of thread, albeit still on the merits of plugs/no plugs, fix/no-fix and why-didn't-you-tell-us etc.

Either way, they did badly here.
