Rule changes

While I am all for certain rule changes and even the one that has been brought in this week about people at home phoning/emailing in I can’t gelp but think it’s letting a few off the hook.

John Rahm at the Irish open this year clearly gained an advantage but I do think(could be wrong) he was pulled on it but the one that is doing my head in is Lexi Thompson, regardless of any rule changes or how much crying she did on TV or support she got she cheated plain and simple.

Any of us who play golf know what position we mark our ball, grand there could be the odd instance where we have to move it left or right for a playing partner but we don’t forget we mark it INFRONT of the ball.

All I have read this week is support for Lexi, she cheated, she was caught, deal with it.

Vast majority of that support is coming from the US where the average golfer wouldn't even putt out from where she miss marked the ball, it's a gimme and they don't really understand what the bug deal is.
She deserved to be penalised as she was, but I'm still glad this rule is coming in, rules officials should be watching the coverage and they should be calling this out, let's not leave it to "we don't like him, we'll phone about something we seen, we do like him, let's not phone".

lexi Thompson was penalised for signing for a wrong score when she didn't know she had broken a rule.
It was ridiculous to penalise her 24 hrs after the infringement

Maybe if she put the ball back in the right spot and didn’t cheat it would have been no issue

100% agree with the rule changing. Don’t agree with it being about Thompson

Which is not what Thompson did, she cheated as there was a pitch mark right in front of where she should have replaced her ball, so took the decision to mark her ball to the side away from the pitch mark.
As in all sports, intent is considered in rulings.

I am sure I have gone to replace it wrong before being made aware by a playing partner if I had previously had to move my marker but I can guarantee I have never cheated and replaced the ball in a different position to benefit myself.

Simply it is almost impossible to replace to the EXACT spot. 1/2 a dimple off it's original spot is the same as an inch in the rule books.

    Where does it say that?
