Long story short I got my keys to my house 3 weeks my dads friend is a plumber I had him over moving a radiator in one of the rooms for me and he told me there was no water going into my attic tank that it was half full and when that goes it's gone to get onto my housing assosiation and get them to have a look so I rang them they sent out a plumber and told him what my dads friend told him the ballcocks where all fine and that it must be the water pressure coming into the house so I got onto Irish water who sent out someone to check my water supply and they said the water pressure coming into my house is above average that most house holds Get 1-2 of water pressure going into there house if that makes sense but I'm getting 2 1/2 I explained to them that the taps down stairs are all fine and I'm getting water out of them no problem that it's the attic tank that I'm having trouble with as I had no cold water for filling up the toilet or the sink or bath and they showed me the pressure reading they were getting coming into my house and they said you need to get back onto your plumber as it nothing to do with our end it's cold out but not enough for pipes or that to be frozen my radiatiors and everything are fine my washing machine and dishwasher are connected to the tank and my machine keeps telling me it needs h20 would anyone have any idea what might be the problem as I am at my wits end I have a special needs son and him having a bath every night is part of his routine so it really is affecting us but no one can find the problem

Have a look around , under the stairs, sink , cylinder cupboard for a valve or stopcock. If your house is in a terrace or similar to the houses on each side ask your neighbours where their stopcock is and for advice.
Might be they are aware of a problem your predecessor had.

Rattle the ball valve sometimes they jam if not used for filling for ages .

Is the heating fed from a tank (small in the attic) if so does it take water when you press the ball down.

get a torch and trace the pipe route from the attic to the front door.

A friend worked on a house like that. There was a blockage on the mains pipe going up to the attic. Kitchen sink was fine. He bypassed the part of the pipe with the blockage and everything was fine again
