EarthRod encased in Concrete (can it be done)

    Hi Guys,
I can't remember where I found it (probably some American site).
Do you know if this is accepted in Ireland or has anyone seen it done? Could you tie your house's earth into a few bits of Rebar in the foundations.

Do you think this would degrade over time, like a standard Earth rod exposed to moisture?

    Thanks in advance

This used to be common practice, it is no longer allowed. If anything goes wrong you have no way of inspecting the joint. Earth rods are cheap and easy to install, this system has no advantages.

Thank you, Out of interest, Would the rod encased in Concrete eventually fail/degrade? eaten by the concrete or something? I can understand that the wire coming out of the concrete might fail, but at that stage, you could just replace with a standard ground rod.

Looks like I don't have a choice as you said...good to know

I don't think the rod will get destroyed, but that is not the question really.
It has to be put in a wet place . The wetter the better .
And in a place where you can check the connection too .
So, basically, in wet earth, the connection done properly ( ideally some tin welding to protect the copper where it is stripped ), Denso tape on top of this, and accessible from a box (green box)
