Since Sunday  night 10/12/17 there has been a drop in pressure in the Rathmines area every evening. Can you give any indication as to how long this will continue. It results in a loss of water to the house.

apologies for the hijack, but have noticed a big drop in pressure every sunday afternoon for the past few weeks, only really noticeable because the attic tank won't fill. now it's happening on saturdays too. is there weekend work going on nearby that we've no idea about?

Apologies also for hijacking the thread but we are having a similar issue also in the Rathmines area.

This problem has been going on for many weeks and relates to the mains pressure (cold water kitchen tap not always running, attic tank not filling quick enough, washing machine not running).. It is also worse at weekends. We have had a plumber out to look at this today and his conclusion was the pressure from the mains is not strong enough. He mentioned many customers in the rathmines area are having similar issues recently.

I will PM my details but just thought I would log the issue here also so that others with similar issue can see. I had previously contacted IW by phone but was told the issue was most likely within the building grounds and thus not the responsibility of IW.

Hope this can get resolved very soon.

    Thanks,
    Ciaran

    Hi,

I just wanted to log an update on the issue here. We are still experiencing the problem - I spoke to an IW customer service rep this morning on the phone who informed me that the issue had been investigated (on 29th Jan) and was resolved even though it is not resolved on our side.. I just wanted to check if this issue has been resolved for jimmylufnan & ballsymchugh?

    Thanks,
    Ciarán

    Hi there,

We reported a low water pressure issue in the Rathmines area back in January (as did several other customers). We were told there were no issues with the mains water pressure in the area and we would need to investigate it within the building - We had a plumber take a look and he confirmed there were no leaks on the property. He said many others in the area were experiencing the same. So our situation was never resolved and now our problem is made worse by the storm and we are without running water. Your CEO Jerry Grant has now publicly said on RTE Primetime (6/3/2018):

"...there are so many leaks in Rathmines and Rathgar and that area, that actually the pressures are very bad anyway and we can't get up to the tops of the buildings and that's becoming clear to us now".

So can we re-open our case for IW to investigate and fix? We currently have no water supply - our flat is located at the top of our building (third floor). Our low pressure issue goes back to before the storm arrived, so not necessarily storm related.

    Thanks,

apologies, i meant to reply to this before. we're in a similar situation. there was always a lack of pressure more noticeable at the weekend. we had thought it was on sundays originally, but now it could be any time over the weekend, depending on if the washing machine is used more than twice.
it's been pretty dreadful over the past couple of days, but the CEO also said that there was no point in reducing the pressure in Rathmines, so hopefully it should improve, at least enough to function normally during the week.

    Thanks ballsymchugh,

Hopefully it returns to a somewhat functioning state in the coming days. Once the fallout of the storm gets resolved I think the general supply and infrastructure will need to be investigated by IW particularly in areas like Rathmines where many seem to experience low pressure. I think it occurs more for anyone in flats on second/third floor of buildings - pressure isn't enough to get up there.

    Hi All,

Firstly, yes problems are significantly worse since the snow but this does not take away from the original problem that has occurred since December.

Secondly, the answer that a repair was made in January does not answer my original query as to why the pressure was dropping every evening. For this I have still not received a reply and the mentioned repair did nothing for the problem.

On another note, I noticed that works were done at some point to the pipe supplying the row of properties I am on. If the quality of the work was the same as the quality of the repair to the footpath and road then I don't hold much hope as to the  quality of the repair. The path is extremely uneven and the road is a death trap for cyclists to be honest.

The day time pressure at the moment is not sufficient to fill the attic tank in my property so I will have to continue paying for launderettes and showers in local gyms, which all  seem to have adequate water supplies.

Irish Water need to get their act together in notifying people about when this will occur. No roads in Rathmines are on the list of areas in Dublin that are suffering restricted supplies, according to the IW website. I think now some warnings and repair time frames would be the least that could be expected.

It has been colder than during the previous storm for longer periods in the past but I remember at no point water pressure being so bad for so long. This has been the case for months now.

Whatever the CEO has said about no water pressure reductions doesn't take away from the fact that water pressure HASbeen significantly lower for months and HAS been even lower in the evenings. No household leaks can cause this.
