Hive Multizone

    Hi,

I did a self install on the hive 2 home heating and water. Pretty straight forward job as I had existing compatible backplate etc.

I'd like to add multizone but I can't locate and guides on how to do this.

My house is currently only one zone but I believe it is plumbed upstairs to allow a second zone and also there is a second thermostat.

Any advice or direction would be much appreciated.
I could get Bord Gais to come do it but I've had my fill of them in relation to unrelated billing issues and don't want to give them another cent.

    Thanks!

Are both heating zones separated by 2 motorised valves, are these valves using the auxiliary switches (grey and orange wires) and lastly, when you wired the existing 2 zones (assume heat and dhw), was there 2 separate wires at the timer for both heating zones?

Essentially to add another zone, you will need another receiver (single channel) wire in it's live and neutral, and switch the second (upstairs?) zones from this hive (number 3 on a single channel backplate, and link live to 1 for 240v switching) and pair it to you existing hub, then pair the second thermostat, this will then appear on your app and another heating zone.

This information is on page 29 of the Hive manual telling you how to pair up additional zones.

Thanks for the reply. I'm probably putting the cart before the horse in relation to hive.

I currently only have one zone. The real question is can I create a second zone based on my existing plumbing and wiring etc.

Some pics to show how things are currently setup.

I'm no expert but hat looks like you have 2 zones - Hot water and all radiators. You would have a third valve if you had a third zone (ie heat split into upstairs and downstairs.

You have 1 central heating zone (bottom MV with 'RADS' written on it) and one DHW zone (upper MV).

If you see where the copper pipe tees off just after the central heating MV, you would have to have 2 MVs one controlling to pipe going up, the other on the pipe going down. only then could you control up and downstairs separately.

Also you system should really be fitted with a bypass (allows for boiler/pump overrun when no zones are open)

Thanks, so by the sounds of it I can add a second heating zone but some plumbing required.

Is there any electrical work required or can the plumber do it all for me.
I also thinking of the second hive receiver. How does that get all hooked up. Thanks

A decent plumber should be able to do the lot, and as your pics indicate, the wiring centre is right beside the boiler.

Both Hive receiver can go in this area, as would make wiring simple.

Second Hive (as per manual) requires Live/Neutral and CH switched on CH3 (single channel hive) and this needs to then be paired up with the hub and second stat (as per manual) and will appear on your app as a second CH zone (you can name the zones in settings/manage devices)
Note: on a single channel Hive receiver if your switching is 240v you will need to link Live to CH1 also, leave out link for volts free, on a dual hive receiver they are 240v switching out of the box and cannot be used for volts free.
