Lots of threads being bumped, so lets just get straight to the point: Where would you recommend people see The Last Jedi? But equally important, where would you recommend people don't see it?

This will be the last movie to be shown on the Savoy One before they chop it up.
It has the largest scope screen in Dublin.
The seats are a bit ratty and cramped but it's the last chance to get to see a movie in a really large old style cinema.

Thinking of the Stella anybody any advice?

Odeon Blanchardstown, IMC Santry and Vue Liffey Valley all use 3D projectors to display 2D films so the image is dim and crappy. Star Wars has space stuff in it....brightness and shadow detail matters. Keep that in mind.

If you can avoid them, do.

Dundrum Screen 1 showing it in 4k!

I will always tell people to avoid Swords cinema when possible. The screens are cramped and incredibly too hot, the staff are bad and never clean the screens properly, and the audio quality is often all over the place.

I'm quite partial to cineworld's pseudo Imax screen myself.

I haven't been but a friend has and, although he really enjoyed the experience, he did specifically say the sound wasn't great (he saw The Great Gatsby there).

As to where's best I think it'll be the Savoy screen 1 for me.

Don't see it in the Stella. Nice for a night out but not for something like this.

Ideally for me it would have to be Savoy 1 or the faux Max

Hit and miss. I've had films stop after about 20 minutes, then the house lights go on. Other times the sounds has dropped out. Or the house lights have stayed lit. The screen checks are fairly infrequent so you'll have to leave and find a staff member to tell them. Last time this happened I had to go down to the sweets counter downstairs to get it sorted.

I would say Cineworlds IMax is the best place to see it but it is expensive even on its bargain day. Yes its not a true IMax cinema but the sound and picture there is still amazing best I have been too you can feel the sound waves in the air your seat shaking. After that I would say Odeons ISense screens would be next and then the Savoy screen 1.

Thats interesting. I have noticed Liffeyvalley films being a little dim sometimes and wondered if it was where I was sitting in relation to the screen.

Last SW movie - I saw it in Point Village 3D & Savoy 1 in 2D.

Point Village 3D Screen was excellent - large screen, good sound, good seats- but I wouldn't do 3D again - too dark and the effect makes movies... forgettable actually. But cinema was great.

Savoy 1 - in 2D - I felt may have cropped a small bit off the top and bottom of the picture to make it longer? And I wasn't at all impressed with the rake - average height guy in front blocked my view.

Anyway booking tonight for during the week - 2D Showing
    - "Dundrum 1" or "Cineworld near - IMAX" Dublin seems to be the consensus then??

Any recommendations on the cinema from anyone who actually has been to see this one?

Went to see it in the Maxx Screen in Wexford Omniplex. They've updated the sound to the new Dolby Atmos system and it's amazing plus it's the biggest screen they have.

Saw it in 3d athlone. They had it on one of the smaller screens. No. 5. Best avoided. Some of there screens are just to small for today's blockbuster films.

So did you go see it after and if so where?

I went and seen it Thursday in the Savoy screen 1 and it was good but the seats there really need a revamp and to be moved up a bit.

Unfortunately IMAX at the Cineworld only have it in 3D a pity as if it was 2D in it I would have went there. The Isense at the point is the next best after the IMax and then the Savoy. That's my top 3 screens in town anyway.

Go to the iSense screen - it's excellent. It's the only super big screen that appears to be showing it in 2D. Cineworld IMAX is all 3D.

    .

I saw it in Cineplex Parnel street- cinema screen was good and large - sound was not Isense quality but ok.. tickets were reasonable

Only thing was I felt the film was very grainy- I don’t know if it was supposed to have this effect but it was like an old style film than digital - certainly the first hour.

Omniplex Cork MAXX screen 1 I found to be grainy also. Once I saw it I couldn't unsee it and ruined the film for me

The standard seats are horrible to sit on too :p Your ass just gets sore after a while and see how this is a two and a half hour movie that doesn't help.

I guess premier seats are the way to go. Sneaky how they do that.

Charlestown iSense wasn't bad.....Decent picture, very good sound, though the seats were a bit uncomfortable for me I have to say.
First time there, so I've not much of a comparison to make to other films.
Vue Screen 3 probably lost another speaker driver during a certain scene in the movie, and the picture was a wee bit muted (very evident at a portion of the Canto Bight mission).

Have not been there in a long time. No not supposed to be grainy. I have seen it twice and it was not grainy in either of them.

That's why the sooner films stop been shot in 3D the better. Bring back screen 17 I say.

I have never been to that cinema but if its anything like the Point Odeon the seats should be similar. Were you sitting on the standard seats or the premier ones?

The standard seats can get on uncomfortable but the premier ones are much better.

    Premier seats.

Vue VIP ones, which some are not a fan of admittedly, I find far more tolerable but even they push it once the second hour is dragging on....though how the film is certainly affects that.

I find the premier seats in Odeon to be very comfy. Have never got a sore backside in them but have at the ones in the Savoy.

I watched it at Liffey Valley Vue last night in the Recliner seats. Although the seats are extremely comfortable they're way too close to the screen (first 2 rows), this makes it difficult to take in the whole screen and if you lay completely flat your own popcorn and drinks end up blocking the view.

Hate to be a killjoy but don't hype yourself up too much. May not be as great a film as we were all hoping it to be.

Yes, won't say more than that. Some like it some don't.

On topic: Big screen no 3D would be my recommendation.

    Sorry dragging this off

But went to see it in vue and I’m the least offended person you’ll meet but during the trailers there was a trailer for fifty shades

How in the name of Jaysus is fifty shades “appropriate for the film you are about to watch”

So, finally going to see this later today in Cineworld!

Is the IMAX 2D in 70mm or is it just a blown up version of the standard?

Deciding whether to go IMAX or 2D

Is it worth paying double to see it in IMAX, or just go standard and use extra cash for popcorn?

The presentation is good, good sound etc and the screen is larger than average. Is it worth double? No.
