Is it possible to get a PDL injection for a filling?

    Hi folks and potential dentists,

Need a filling in my lower molar to my left, second from the end. It is my first filling and I have a fear of injection due to multiple past experiences. Both of these factors have combined into an unease about the procedure. As I understand it based on my research, to numb those these would usually require a nerve block. However, is it possible to get just a PDL injection? It looks a lot easier. It is my only fear but it is mucking up my day to say the least.

PDL injections are a bit sore to be fair unless the PDL is already numb. Let the dentist give you a normal injection its not really sore, when done properly. Its all about technique and having a good dentist. Trust the dentist to do the job or do not, dont tell them how to do the job, its put everyone off their game.

Most LA injections I find patients experience very little discomfort. People find the palatal injections a bit sore alright though!

For people who are that extra bit nervous I find that topical anaesthetic does have a good effect even if it's just psychological.

The injection is a 10-15 second procedure.
Distract yourself by focusing on your breathing, &/bring in something like a FidgetSpinner or stress ball.
I absolutely hate needles & still make myself donate blood to the Irish Blood Transfusion Board 3 times a year - it doesnt get easier whether it's your 1st or 21st needle, but afterwards you feel you've done a good deed.....& also the (much much smaller) dental needles don't seem as bad either then ;)
Your dentist gives injections thousands of times a year- trust them.
