    Hi,
Can anyone educate me on the above?

Architect has one designed in for our new extension - said he wouldn't recommend solid fuel because the roof height wouldn't generate a good enough draw.

Trying to get an idea of price of various units and price for installation if possible.
Builder has allowed for the flue to go out and the plumber is running gas line - but it needs to be installed and commissioned by whoever supplies it, or somebody else (if i opt to buy the unit in from abroad for example)

Also, in general, looking for anyone's experience with them....

does it need to be serviced every year like a boiler?
Does it need to go on a special plinth? The area its going is due to be tiled with normal floor tiles.

Balance flue gas stoves can be very high in efficiency and very flexible to were you can fit them. But to keep your cost down on the flue pipe it best if you fit them on a external sided wall. With some stoves the flu pipe can come off the back of the stove and it usually comes with the stove, you can be restricted to the flue length!. The more contemporary stoves like the Oak, Dru and Faber stoves. There flue will need to come off the top of the stove for at least a meter and then out through the wall, but once it's through the wall, that's it, you don't have to go up any further with it. Balance flue gas stoves can be very cheap to run, about €0.32 an hour on natural gas. How they work is it takes the air it needs for combustion from the outside though one part of the balance flue pipe and then the Products of combustion go out the other part so there no air taken from your room.

With all gas fires/stoves the burner need to be at least 25cm from combustible material so if you're fitting tiles you would be fine. Unlike a wood stove you won't be opening the stove door so nothing will fall out.

The flue can cost around €350-€500 a RGI can charge €250-€500 but your on site plumber should fit it for you if RGI

    Much appreciated! great info.
Yes it will be going on tiled floor.
I have an RGI on-site running the gas pipe. Builder has created opening for the flue.
Plan was for the stove to arrive after the tiles
So can anyone fit the stove and flue, as long as an RGI connects the gas?
