eGolf a viable option for 100 mile days?

I'm a bit of a newbie to EV's so I've been trying to read up as much as I can and read previous threads on here so excuse if I ask questions already answered before.

I got a quote for an eGolf for €31k Including 5k ecoGrant for scrapping my current disintegrating 2001 Diesel Golf. (ecoGrant only available til end of year)

I drive between 70 to 100 miles a day for work and am wondering will it be cutting it a bit too close to expect to complete these journeys each day over country roads that are hilly and twisty needing a lot of changes in speed? (I'm not sure if its possible to get a 35.8kWh to test drive for a day or two?)

I took a 30kWh Leaf out last week for a test drive day and it had 170km on the GOM and it only covered about 130km on that terrain before the range started flashing and I was in Eco mode most of the time so I'm a bit worried that if I bought an eGolf that in 4 or 5 years time the 120 mile range will have disintegrated to less than 100 miles. An eGolf with less than a 100 mile range will then probably be only worth less than 15000?/10000? (Not sure what the 8 year Guarantee on the car and battery are?)

The new 40kWh LEAF will cost me similar because Nissan are unlikely to give scrappage according to my local Nissan dealer. I'm looking at eNV200 also as the extra volume would be useful for work.

I have a preference for the eGolf from owning a Golf and also because I'm 193cm in height so the Golf is a better fit than LEAF/Ioniq ... also I need the square storage space with seats folded down for Work equipment.... I'm kind of trying to find all the right answers to spend my hard earned money on the eGolf as I really like the look/build of it compared to the Asian car makes.

The economic reasons for an EV are because I'm currently spending ~€50/week on Diesel and so yearly 2500 on fuel, 750 on tax and averaging 800 on maintenance/repairs each year so 4000 a year that I might not have to spend on an electric!?

So would I get away with risking buying the eGolf and manage 100 miles a day for the next 4 or 5 years? or would I be more sensible waiting to get larger build and range eNV200 40kWh... or Kia Niro EV if it comes?

    Any advice welcome.

I dont think it would do 100miles in this weather with hills involved

A BMW i3 rex has the same electric range as the eGolf and has a little petrol generator that will add another 100km should you need

You'd get a less than a year old one in from uk for less than 30k

Much better car than Leaf and Golf and way faster

With your mileage, tax, maintenance etc it will pay for itself

Would be my choice for 30k budget and your mileage

For my mileage I would prefer the BMW 330e with 252bhp

Was going to say Ioniq but they are the same price as a BMW i3 in the UK

What a kick in the teeth that is for Bmw owners depreciation wise

A 171 BMW i3 170bhp RWD, carbon fibre body same price as Hyundai Ioniq ( nothing wrong with Ioniq, but the i3 is a serious little car,way better car)

The new eGolf would have no trouble. It's real world range is just over 200km. The Leaf induces range anxiety with all the "low battery warning" stuff kicking in a lot earlier than it should, scaring people who haven't got used to an EV yet.

You can expect an additional 5-10% boost in range as your driving style adjusts to an EV. Both VWs range estimate are more accurate than the Leaf as well (BMWs is better still).

I rather work in new money, so you need to do 160km.....I don't know why anyone would post you will not do it.....

I have eGolf, gen 1, get accused of fan boy etc on here but I just tell the facts....

Only a few eGolf's knocking around Ireland. Someone did post recently on here they had bought the 17 model. Might be able to give more numbers on new model.

I get at least 120km per charge. More in warm weather. God it loves warm weather. I do say I seem to have heavy foot as a eGold driver in Limerick has no issue getting 170km per charge in 151 model as well. So in the older model you can do it. Not sure if you can open this? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10214176288751411&set=gm.1942350772672868&type=3&theater&ifg=1

If you can't, his average over 35k km is 6.72KW/km, average of 162km per charge. That is doing 110km on motorway.

So in new model you will have no issue doing 160km. At least with my heavy foot I would expect to get 220km per charge. Going to test drive new model this week :-)

Have you test drove the eGolf yet?

I do admit I like the idea of BMW Rex but it is small from what I can see. Not sure what space is like when seats are down.

The eGolf has great space, fairly similar to a diesel Golf I had previous, maybe boot not as deep but I did get 2 adults, 2 kids in car seats and dog carrier in boot with no issues and drove over 100km on motorway with full load.....

Based on the pics this morning I would be concerned about the Ioniq, bits falling off it in cold weather, someone post on electric car forum.

The Leaf will do a job but test drive the eGolf to get a comparison. I think you will love it, especially if used to driving Golf's.

I would recommend to get technology pack as a minimum. They will probably try to sell the park assist, I have it. Used it twice, both times to see how it works....never use it.

What are they giving on delivery dates?

Id stick with what you have at the moment. There was mention recently of new incentives coming forward for new electric car purchases. Also you can see if Nissan do scrappage deal on leaf. The new car will easily lose more than 4K a year on depreciation and loan interest for the first few years!

Already a 10k incentive and charger incentive in place for new cars....this will not increase

The additional incentives are reduction in tolls and some other things. This will be the same for people already driving electric.

All cars lose a large chuck when you drive from dealer. At the moment BMm, Merc and VW are holding the price of electric cars. Nissan are not.

That's because there's a refreshed model that's better equipped and dealers are selling old stock.
