Hi, I've a 06 Zafira B, has had both recalls done and thermostat replaced.
I've no heat coming through the system. There is coolant in it.
    Any ideas?

Could be airlock or waterpump failure.

Could be airlock or waterpump failure.

Water is circulating fine, has been used for a good few runs now (1hr +) so any air should be out of the system.

Was temperature reached high to kick in fan?
Had '04 , remember after replacing thermostat had to heat it up couple times that high to get circulation.
Not gona be easy in this wheater

On the other hand, if you certain there is no circulation issues .....

    Is blower fan running?
If yes, does it blow to windscreen, foot-well, etc.(check all settings)

Has gotten to temp, no problem, fans kicking in, have had that issue with the vent controls but have it sorted. Yesterday after driving for about 35 mins on the motorway the temp light came on, when I slowed down to pull in it went off again. I left it for a bit and checked levels and all were fine !

You need a mechanic to look at this.

My money is on the water pump still. I'd be reluctant to drive it anywhere.

Yeah, think I'll get one next week. Have another car lined up to keep us going.

I suggest that maybe the heater radiator is blocked.

Try some Radflush first before you go replacing the water pump or open the pipes from the heater rad and see if water will pass through it (messy job but at least it will eliminate the heater rad as the source of the problem).

This would not explain engine overheat - main rad and fan should keep temp at level if circulation obstructed to heater only(as it does summer time)

Coming back to circulation - in expansion tank you should clearly see constant flow of coolant while engine running. Can you confirm this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 335 ✭✭jimbooth

Yeah, have constant flow circulating into expansion bottle, plugged in eobd to get live feed, gets to 110° and rad fan kicks in as normal. Wrecking my head now tbh.

    So no overheating?

If you're getting coolant circulating around the engine but no heat in the car, I'm wondering if there's an airlock or blockage in the heater rad?

Try Radflush....if it works fine. If it doesn't you'll have to drain the system anyhow..

Try these steps if not done yet(beware veeeery slow, i would have some rag over tank cap to avoid scalding)

Flow in tank proof pump running, but return/overflow pipe fitted just before rad entry- fluid circulate through engine but not able flow trough rad.
Temp sensor fitted on engine block not on rad(correct me if wrong). Does you rad get hot?

correction: on Zafira 04 there is two overflow pipes - one from engine(flow on engine start), other from rad(i think start flow only once thermostat open for full circuit). See if yours has same.

No overheating, tried rad with the pipes off an water goes through. Doesn't seem to be airlocked. Was told it could be a faulty thermostat, new on fitted but they come prefixed in the housing. Gonna get one from a parts car and see if it makes a difference.

Sorted, sludge in the heater matrix, took off pipes, pressure flushed and load of gunk came out, waited till after it was clear and bled the system once more, hey presto! 😀
