Hi, we are living in an old Victorian house we bought about 2 years ago, we haven't done much if any work to it yet except for insulating the attic but the house is still freezing!
We use the two fireplaces in the two sitting rooms but are afraid to light the old Stanley solid fuel small stove in the kitchen as it hasn't been lit in a long time (previous owner said 15 years) and we are not sure what condition the chimney is in ;thought we saw things like no more nails type filler in stove from chimney?).
Would anyone know of someone reputable who could come out and check the chimney and clean it and let us know if it's safe to light the stove? We live in Dublin 3. We're afraid we'll get someone out who will pull a fast one and say we need lots of work done which we may not need? Suggestions welcome!?

I've found Alan Lawlor Stoves in Churchtown to be excellent.
