    Hi All,

Would anyone know how much it would cost to fix the heating in a 04 focus?

It’s gone in the wives car. Could it be a loose connection? Because there’s a issue with two lights on the dash ficking on & off. Handbrake & abs lights.

Have you checked the coolant level?

Have you checked the coolant level?

    That. Before anything else. Immediately.

yes that's the normal reason for the heater stopping working. Whilst you're there, have you got anti freeze in it?

to explain, the heater works off waste heat from the engine, carried by the coolant fluid, The only control is a flap which directs the hot air into the cabin when required. If the coolant is too low, the hot water does not reach the heater element.

I'd say brake issue is separate but also wants checking out without delay.

Thanks all. I’ll check straight away

It’s not the coolant anyway. There’s loads in it.

Next up is blower (does it work) and pollen filter (check for blockage).
    After that it's heater matrix.

Does it blow on the highest setting?
    Could be the resistor pack.

Does the fan run and it just isn't hot? Or is the fan stopped?

If the fan will not run it can be a number of things on a 04 Focus.

    1. Check to ensure the pollen filter isn't letting water in where the seal touches the bottom of the windscreen. It's a common failure point.

    2. Resistor pack can burn out, and the fan my only work on top speed (no resistance), if at all.

    3. Switch. The full current runs through this switch as you change speed settings, so it can also burn out.

    4. Motor. Water can drip onto the fan motor itself from an unsealed pollen filter, and damage it.

No. The fan isn’t working on any setting.

It was only working on level 3 for the last while.

Defo the resistor pack is gone and you may have a secondary fault if the max speed no longer works.

The resistor packs are cheap on ebay:

I have a brand new resistor pack for a focus here. Bought it for my focus that clapped out a week after I fitted it a few months ago. PM your address if you want and I'll pop it in the post free of charge.
