You gave them the email address on a previous occasion that you used that card with them which you forgot about.

Does the credit card issuer have your email address?

As someone who works for an IT firm specialising in customer data solutions, I know four letters that will strike fear into the hearts of anyone gathering "personally identifiable information": GDPR. As of May next year, the law protects you. Halfords should be nearly ready with their preparations if they're wise. Phone and ask what information they have on you and how you can request its correction or removal. They should comply now and will be forced to comply by May.

Remains to be seen how much more effective GDPR is than the current data protection laws regarding it's enforcement and discovery of non compliance.

On this issue OP, just send in a data protection access request by email requesting all data they have relating to yourself, both electronic and physical. There's plenty of templates online.

Oh, absolutely. If GDPR cynicism were petroleum, we'd be able to fry eggs on the concrete at the South Pole in ten years.

previous time I was in they asked for email which I gave...got no receipt, was in yesterday and they never asked although I used the same debit card and axa discount card and got no receipt.

Did you reserve online OP? I do hate when they ask and make a point of saying now. But then I lost a receipt when I needed to return something so now I'm not so sure!

Anyway, this probably isn't one for the motors forum. I can move it to the consumer issues forum if you'd like?

Get a throwaway e-mail address. I give that to nosy retailers if they insist and set the mailbox to go to spam. I then empty the spam box every few months.

You must have given to them and forgotten, they did not read it from your car reg in the parking lot :-)

There is absolutely no possibility of any credit card company sharing such info.

As above, at some stage you probably gave it or someone else who used your card.

Consumers despise this type of info gathering. I remember a couple of years ago Harvey Norman said they couldn't complete the sale to me of a dishwasher unless I gave my mobile number - I went across the road and bought in Power City.

    Go ask in Halfords..

If it turns out that it was given to them at some stage by you or a family member then is there really an issue with them having it? As long as they are not sending you unwanted information on promotions and so on I fail to see an issue.

An e receipt can be very useful, especially on something with a long warranty where the paper receipt will have either been lost or faded beyond recognition.

Regardless of your denial you DID provide them with your email address at some stage and it’s linked to your debit/credit card.
