Driving up a steep icy hill, help

Hello, I've to get up a very steep icy hill at 8am to get home tomorrow and am terrified I'll slide back down!

    The hill itself:
•Comes onto the main road at bottom
    •Has a right turn (90°) at a slight incline
•Immediately after right turn has a substantial left turn (90°) with a hell of an incline.
•Is rarely gritted (new to this area but assume it's classed as private or council are seriously slacking).
•Not a big in distance, just height!

I drive a Citroen Berlingo Van.

Any advice would really out my mind at ease!

Chains or winter tires, otherwise it's a gamble.

If you can put the car at the other side of it now it night be an idea. Or find a different route.

Start off in second gear. Makes a huge difference.

Last big freeze up we had 2010-11 I was driving a berlingo lost count of the amount of times I got stuck on hills in n back roads.Only thing to do was reverse up them .

avoid first gear and reduce tyre pressure. around these parts the neighbours always park on the main road when there is a danger of snow rather than down the lane so as not to find themselves snowbound in the morning.

There is lots of different things you can do to help but if you're not confident I'd genuinely just avoid the hill

Weave the car from left to right, never let it stop.

Pray to Jesus, he will help you and bring you to the top... Lol

Or just get some Snow chains.... I'd have more faith in them.

leave a bit of air out your tyres so that there soft but not so soft that it will damage them maybe?

If not too long, why not go out and buy a bag of salt or sand today and grit it yourself at the ropey parts

Kitty litter is a god send for gaining a bit of traction. The gritty, non clumping type.

Used a fair bit of it in 2010 in my house.

    How did you get on?

Some great advice above. Let some air out of the tyres, low rev's, 2nd gear or higher.

Park at the bottom of the hill and walk it first, might be grand, might be impassable.

Alternatively go for breakfast somewhere, kill some time and let the sun come up and do its job.

Not my experience of Snow here. The sun can come up but if it is below zero the snow and the stranded car are going nowhere.

I would avoid that hill completely if I was you. It will be covered in ice and it would be too risky to chance such a hill with 90 degree bends. Plan a different route and leave plenty of time, and take your time. Good luck.
