2008 A4 or BMW 318i?

Hey folks,

Looking at picking up a new car in and around the 5k range, currently driving an Astra H SRI, which is just that bit too small and the 1.4l engine is fairly sluggish.

Thinking about a B8 A4 or possibly a 318i, but can't really decide. Only thing that has me a bit concerned about the A4 within my budget is they seem a bit cheap considering the prices for them vary wildly.

Anyone have any opinions/reviews, particularly on what to look out for on both models.

I wouldn't off thought you'd get any kind of a decent B8 for 5k. Even a 08 in any kind of decent condition would make a few k more than 5k. Probably get a 318i E90 easy enough for that money as they were out from 05 onwards.

Can you buy decent 2008 versions of both cars for 5k? Realistically I'd say not without having to spend more money on fixing them after buying either.

Yeah there's a fair few 318is for in and around the 5k but I'm sceptical of the pricing of the A4s

Have to admit the A6 looks nice, but my insurance won't give me a quote on it due to my age

Am on the market myself and thinking A4. Talking to my local mechanic (who drives Audi himself), reckons the B7 was reliable enough but the B8 not so. The B7 was end of that design and presumably well enough sorted by then. The B8 first of the new generation so version 1.0. Stay away from the auto version in any case, seems the online advice.
