    Simple question..
Does an Amazon delivery via An Post require a signature?
I got a notification off Amazon yesterday that a parcel had been delivered while I was out. There is no parcel to be seen anywhere and the neighbours haven't knocked around with it.
An Post customer services say that there is no signature required, which seems odd for a €250 order.

Most orders don't seem seem to need one these days. The postman taps it in to his handheld device that it has been delivered, and thats it - for me anyway.

The last 8 signed for items I've received the Postman has forged the signature. Sometimes it goes in a bin after, sometimes with a neighbour.

I told the story recently, but I had a similar problem with the postie left delivery notes saying that he rang at 8.30am, even though he didn't. Had a quiet word in the local delivery unit, and good as gold since.

    An Post's reply to Amazon...
'The service used does not have a requirement for a signature to be obtained at the time of delivery and accordingly none was obtained.

With regard to the customers being upset at the item not requiring a signature for delivery, this is beyond the remit of An Post.

Amazon and your customer determine the features of the delivery service engaged and An Post handles the item in accordance with the product/service chosen by Amazon at the time of mailing.

If there is still an issue with this or anything else please don't hesitate to reply back to this email, we will be happy to assist you.

Your patience and understanding will be appreciated. We hope to see you again soon.'

It’s between Amazon and An Post. Tell Amazon to get a proof of delivery from An Post, and if they can’t get one, you want a replacement sent out immediately. Not your problem whatever goes on between AP and Amazon.

I've had some Amazon deliveries require a signature and some not. The values of the items seems varied.

One thing that came to my attention yesterday with some Amazon deliveries, and which I intend to contact them about, is this :

Yesterday I was expecting 2 parcels from amazon, and received 2 texts from an post saying they were out for delivery. Postie called to door with a few parcels, said only one was for me and got me to sign for it. I asked if he was sure there wasn't another for me as I was expecting 2, he glanced at the others and held one up and asked if that was me? It was, but a small bit of the left hand side of the name/address label was missing, meaning the first letter of my name, and the first number/letters of my address were missing. He said he had noticed this quite a bit on packages! The thing is that it is obvious that part of the label is missing, but they would still put it through the door of the address they could read - in my case No6 instead of 16.
A relative of mine had tthe label issue last Christmas and it took a while to locate it - his had the eircode fully visible though, but AP said they don't use it!

I just simply cannot justify the use of An Post for something that isn't an item that can fit through the letterbox. Too many lazy postmen who claim to knock/wait, yet never do, and force you to go to a collection depot that is often located in the most inconvenient places if you live anywhere that isn't Dublin.

Ever since Parcel Motel/Wizard came on the scene I've been using their services. And in the probably 5 years (and f*ck knows how many packages) I've been using PM, I've never once had an issue and have even found their customer service to be top notch.

I received 2 items today, identical items. One was lost(apparently) so they sent another and refunded it so now I've 2 items and all the monies :D (only €8 so not a big deal for them)

My point is one of them came from Germany(except Amazon say it came from Scotland) and the other did come from Scotland. One arrived snail mail and one arrived Express Post An Post which my postie signed. Maybe he signed the other I don't know.

Both labels are very very similar other than the shipment address(one DE one UK) but my address isn't cut off or anything. I haven't seen the postie since It got busier as he's running later each day.

I don't give Amazon an inch on anything. If they mess up I'm all over them. To the OP, don't extend them any more patience. Say you want the items replaced with priority shipping or you'd like to make a formal complaint about Amazon suggesting that YOU signed for it and may now be extorting them. They'll run a mile and replace the items. Even if you don't do anything and take a refund, you know they'll still get a refund from An Post or Royal Mail.

I had a label issue last week - was expecting a parcel, tracking said it was out for delivery, but nothing arrived and the tracking updated to insufficient address. I contacted Amazon who got in touch with An Post to give them the details and the package arrived the next day, like yours a bit of the left side of the label was missing and the house number wasn't legible as a result. I thought it was just a one off mistake but from the sounds of it their label printing might be a bit dodgy.
