GPU Advice

Have the following build and looking to upgrade the GPU. My CPU has a stable overclock at 4.6mhz so will hopefully do me for another year or so:

Intel Core i5-3570K Box, LGA1155 - overclocked to 4.6mhz
Club 3D Radeon HD 7950 13Series, 3GB GDDR5,
24GB-Kit G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-10667U CL9
ASRock Z77 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX
450w PSU

I'm looking at the MSI RX 580 8GB. My current HD7950 3GB has a TDP of 200W. The RX580 is rated at 185W. I know it's tight, particularly with an overclock, but will I get away without replacing the PSU? It would make life a bit easier (and cheaper).

It's fine. Just go easy on the overclocks. You will be pushing it tight.

Alternatively, get a GTX 1060 6Gb.

Looked at that, but I really need the extra 2GB of VRAM. It's for X-Plane 11 which is a beast in terms of hardware specs.

I always use GPU-Z to determine VRAM usage. I'm not sure what the measurement within X-Plane is, but it's certainly not accurate.

X-Plane is more a simulator than a game and on medium to high settings will chew up VRAM and spit it out. My current 7950 with 3GB of VRAM can run everything else at close to max settings, but struggles with X-Plane.

It's a decent card but I cannot comment on price as I don't be looking them up to see what they go for. Try to get it for 20 or 30 lower than they sell for.
