Watch Cleaning

    Hi folks.

I had my watch serviced a few years back as it needed a battery but while it was being serviced the face of the watch ended up with stains on it which I presume are something along the lines of water stains and there is also some kind of residue on the hands.

The watch is about 10 years old and when I got it serviced I didn't really notice/look close enough at the stains. Now they are really annoying me as the watch is my daily now.

Is there anywhere that will take the watch apart and clean the face and dials. doesn't need a service as it is keeping perfect time.

Also any idea what the residue on the hands could be?

Generally, dials can't be cleaned and I've no reason to believe yours is any different. I would say that you have two options:

    1. Contact Seiko UK to see if they have a replacement dial available and if they can swap it - I would say 95% that they will insist on doing a full service at the same time. I don't know if there is any local watchmaker near to you with a Seiko account who could sort this for you.

(You probably ought to initially contact Seiko Ireland but unfortunately the Support bit of their website doesn't work http://seiko.ie)

    2. Keep an eye on Ebay for a donor watch. I don't think yours is particularly desirable amongst collectors and it's not as if you need a working donor so you may be lucky. Have you got a picture of the back so we can work out the model details.

The model number is Seiko SNG045P1

Looks like you possibly need a new handset also.

Good suggestions above but I have a feeling if you go the Seiko route for repair it will cost more than a complete replacement.
