Replacing PVC window hinges

    Hi all,

I have a problem with a couple of 25 + years old PVC Windows, the hinge on one side has broken meaning they don't close properly. I've sourced replacement hinges but the screws in the existing ones have a strange head on them and I'm not sure what tool will remove them. See attached photo, it's got a kind of hole in the head. Any help appreciated!

That's a rivet. You'll have to take the head off it by drilling it with a small drill bit to remove the broken hinge.

Be careful not to drill in too far as you might but the glass. You may need to drill new holes for the hinges as they might be different,

Best way about it is to take the glass out first, then take the hinges off the outer frame, measure how far up beyond the sash the end of the hinge goes (with the hinge closed and the sash taken out of the frame) you can mark it on a scrap of old timber if it makes it easier. then measure the same distance for placing the new hinge onto the sash. Hinge is usually up against the top of the window frame so relocating the hinge into the frame is easy.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll try and get a professional on to this one! Too much to go wrong and too cold if it does!

Hi all, similar question to this

I have some Munster joinery windows where I have found the bracket has broken etc and a window is not 100% closing.

Can I get replacement brackets for these?

    thanks

Try Amazon as a start then ebay then once you know exactly what you want see if anyone else on line has them cheaper. Both Amazon and ebay have loads. I've just fixed three Munster joinery windows myself and got the hinges from Amazon.

Thanks very much, is there a window model or something I can review or did you pick based on the type of hinge?
If so I guess i need to figure out how the window is hinged

They seem to go on the length of the longest part of the hinge and then the type of window opening and sometimes weight of window. Basically the longer the hinge the bigger the window it will support. Then there are lighter weight hinges for top hinged windows.

Does anyone know a supplier of window hinges based in Dublin? Need to pick up some 16” hinges with 17mm stack height.
