A bit of beard help

So i've been growing a beard for the last year or so, few trims inbetween, and initially had a longer smig/central beard, but all even(ish) now.

I condition daily, wash once a week, use oil and balm, and brush twice daily, but the problem i'm having is that I can't seem to control my sideburn hair without the use of a heavy and obvious styling cream. They curl outwards, and make me look a bit ragged at times! I don't want stuck down sideburns, as it doesn't look right. I've been hoping that the weight would eventually pull them down, but not so.

Anyone have any tips if they were in a similar situation. The end goal is a beard as long as it will grow, and the sideburn hair starts at the top of the ear. Shaving them will look stupid on me, so I'm gonna leave them grow, but I'm hopeful someone has experienced the same and sorted it!

    Any and all tips welcome!

Can't do that, there'd be nothing much left! It's just curly and a bit wild, and it's refusing to stay down!

Ah ok, mine has some curl but not like that.

Maybe embrace it and let it go wild? Let your beard be what it want to be!

That's the way I was going, leave it go and see what happens! I think I may be starting it a bit too high. It starts at the top of my sideburns, right where my glasses sit. Maybe I need to trim it down a bit below the eye line...

Hah, I googled big beards and came across this guy which I'm now picturing.

Yeah, I think that's pretty common especially if you have a tight haircut to trim the sideburns. Maybe let it start growing out above the bottom ear lobe like this guy.

It's really a personal thing to keep toying with. The best part is it will always keep growing back so you'll have years to perfect your look.

Go to a decent barber and tidy it. I've been growing my beard about a year but have been regularly trimming my sideburns as I shave my head, need to fade the heavy beard into the shaved head. I start with an 8 blade and fade up to bare blade.
Last week I reluctantly took my first visit to the barber's in years because I had to tidy it up for a funeral. It's getting harder for me to maintain myself, I struggle to tidy my neck as I can no longer see it. He did a much better job than I ever did, faded the sideburns nice and square, left the full length on the chin and tidied around my mouth, even waxed up the handlebars. I am very happy with the outcome and will be going again every few weeks from now on.
Just go for it, it'll always grow back

Yeah, I've decided to get the trim tomorrow, hopefully it'll help!

    Cheers folks!

Got the trim, looks a lot better now! Plus i'm apparently lucky to have little to no hair growing on my neck under the beard, so bonus!
