"Splitting" satellite feed

I've read through various threads but cant seem to get my head around this. I understand that each receiver needs its own dedicated connection back to an LNB. 2 if its a dual tuner box.
I've seen dual, quad (quattro??) LNBs.
    I've also seen 2/4, 3/5, 2/8, 4/8 passive "splitter" type boxes.

My question is, what exactly do I need to run 2 satellite feeds to 4 rooms?

Will a dual LNB feed a 2-to-8 splitter which can feed 4 dual tuner receivers?
If so, why does a 4-to-8 splitter even exist?

If you want full functionality on 4 separate dual-tuner boxes you will need 8 independent feeds. This can be done with an Octo LNB feeding 2 cables directly to each box or a Quad/Quattro LNB feeding a centrally located multi-switch which then outputs 8 (or more if needed) feeds to the boxes.

Splitters have other uses than satellite, terrestrial or cable feeds can be split with them. Satellite feeds can be split but the box sends a return to the LNB to switch between bands and polarity, only 1/4 of the frequencies can be accessed at any one time on a single feed. There is also the issue of two boxes sending competing voltages to the LNB if you connect 2 to a single feed.

Thanks for the reply. The odds are I will only need 1 or 2 connections in 2 rooms but I'm ripping walls so might as well try to future proof the cabling while I have the chance.
I'll have a look into those 5/8 multi switches so and try find somebody to install a compatible LNB.

This is probably a silly questions but can two "antenna" sources be joined somehow and fed into a multi-switch?
I'd like saorview from an antenna but I also found an old analogue connection coming into the house that has a few other channels on it too (all SD only though).

Yes via a combiner, provided there is no co-channel conflicts, e.g. in Dublin Saorview from Three Rock and VM analogue Channel4 share UHF Channel 30
