Not enough info there for me to give you a definite yes or no.

First thing to say is that unless your gross pay for this year is more than €16,500, you won't be paying any PAYE as your own credits will cover any tax due, so his won't be any use to you.

Next, at this point in the tax year there's not much point in you trying to availing of his personal tax credit as it's probably too late for the change to be processed through your payroll system before year end.

So what the pair of you need to do, next Feb, after you have got your P60, is to ask Revenue for a review your joint 2017 tax situation. Be sure to claim for any medical expenses that you or your husband may have incurred. Make sure that you have opted to be jointly assessed so Revenue will look at the your combined income/tax situation and calculate any refund due.

(If you haven't already done so, you should register for Revenue's My Account service: https://www.ros.ie/myaccount-web/register.html )

As for availing of his personal PAYE credit for next year, that would depend on how much you're earning each week and whether he's going to remain on IB - which is taxable - for much longer. Because if he is able to go back to work then he'll need his own tax credits.
