I've just kicked off this year's awards. The first 13 categories are now open for nominees.

Going for a quick turnaround this year - I'm aiming to get everything done and dusted before Christmas.

The next group of categories (Fun) will go up on Friday morning and the third (Overall) will go up on Tuesday 12th.

Ugh... that smart arse poor man's Joss whedon dialogue they gave her just killed her character for me. I just cringed every time she delivered one of those lines. Ashley Burch is fantastic and did her best but there's only so much you can do when you are given bad material.

Not a great year for characters, although I should maybe have played more indie games. Majima stands out for me because he's just so much fun.

I skipped the cut-scenes which I generally do for any game not called the Last of Us, so probably have a more favourable impression of her.

In fairness, she handles herself well even if she is a total Mary Sue. So plus points for girl power

So hard to choose between Zelda BOTW & Mario Odyssey on Switch for all their awards.

p.s. NieR:Automa is best game of 2017, you won't even remember half these titles in 5 years.

I actually thought Aloy was really well written.

No issues with any of them other than best story going to Horizon. Badly written derivative Mary Sue stuff. There were much better this year.

Zelda well deserves GOTY, so i'm happy with that. ME: Andromeda also a good choice for disappointment, and EA were a pretty much guaranteed WTF.

While I've not put a lot of time into it so far I feel that way about Mario Odyssey. It's good but not a goty contender in it for me.

I'm loving Mario because it feels innovative compared to previous entries in the franchise. BOTW feels like just another Zelda game to me. Dunno, I just didn't experience any of the same sentiments others seem to have

I haven't even played Yazuka, and Majima is my favourite character this year. Every stream I've seen of the game, he's a highlight

Yakuza has always been fantastic and it was great seeing it finally get the recognition it deserved this year. It's like a really bizarre spiritual sequel to shenmue.
