Need help with Toshiba laptop

Hi a friend was having some issues with his toshiba c50-a-1du laptop so after doing a back up I reset everything to factory settings.

Wish I didn't as he told me he doesn't have any of the discs after I did it. It's on windows 8 pro 64 bit. I saw a windows 8.1 pro 64 bit on ebay with the product key...if I purchased that would it work or it has to be windows 8?

Also since doing the reset the cursor on the laptop is going nuts (was working fine before reset). Probably need drivers installed but about that i'm all confused about where to get the drivers...is it Toshiba or fujitsu for the laptop?

    Any help much appreciated.

Windows 8 or 8.1 have the licence key stored in the Bios now instead of putting it on a sticker for it to fade off.
You can download it from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 use Windows 8.1 download as it works on both 8 and 8.1. When installing if it looks for key just skip. Once its installed and on the internet it will activate. The only thing you need to make sure of is the version of windows ie Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate. If wrong one is installed it will not activate.
For drivers i have been using a website called www.drp.su just go download small file by clicking on "install all required drivers" on the home page. Then run this just go to expert mode and put tick in all you want there are browsers and antivirus(avast) as well as some windows ransomeware protection updates selected by default and its monitoring tool. This i have found great as it will find the most up to date driver. I have used this a lot and have only found 1 device it could not install for me on several different makes and model computers.

Cheers that was very helpful. I have the drivers installed and internet working on the laptop. I've got the windows 8 cd but even with internet on it still asks for product key and "next" is greyed out. Any ideas?

Did the machine come with windows 8 by default or was windows 7 installed and then upgraded to windows 8.
If this is the case you need to find the windows 8 key used during upgrade or there should be a windows 7 licence key sticker on laptop maybe under battery as some are under there.
If it was windows 8 it should have a windows 8 sticker on the laptop.

Also if the incorrect version of windows 8 was installed this can happen happened to me i installed win 8 professional instead of win 8 home but once i installed win 8 home it worked for me auto activating from internet.
