Round bulb for Bathroom mirror not working

hi, before I call the professionals in, I was looking for a bit of advice.

I have a bathroom mirror with internal (round bulb) light and I recently replaced it, but it won't switch on. So, I'm not sure if it's the bulb, or the unit itself. When I took off the old bulb I noticed it was quite dark around the area where you plug it in! The mirror has a shaver socket that we use for the toothbrush and that's working fine, so there's definitely electricity going into it..

Could the bulb be faulty or would it be something else internal?
