    Hi
I've insert stove which doesn't perform at a good level. Attached is screen shot of vermiculite around the chimney adapter. Is this normal or has the  vermiculite  given away leaving a opening for hot air to escape

Can anyone with little knowledge tell me if the pic is normal or is there something wrong . Should vermiculite be on top of fire box inside the inset stove

It looks like perlite to me.The perlite should not come into the stove,it should be contained in the chimney around the flue.
There is probably a hole now for hot air to escape unless the perlite blocked the gap again.
some chimney sweeps have cameras so I would advise take a look with a camera to see if the gap is big enough to cause a problem with heat loss

I dont understand the picture but when filling the chimney with perlite some of if will have fallen into the flue, could this be where it came from?

Thanks gillad. I always thought it was to insulate flue. A friend said his was not that way and my stove doesnt really perform so I'll get fitter to look even though was fitted a while back

I stuck my own mobile in there and can see the pertile is coming throw gap between flue and outer box. There is some pertile stuck between the gap. Has been like this since fitting so hope this will improve heat output once sorted
