Granite worktop adhesive?

Lads, had a granite worktop put in at the weekend, but the supplier has fitted 30mm upstands, instead of the 20mm agreed; its has been stuck on with a black tar mastik type thing. Does anyone know what this is and how easy/hard it is going to be to replace the upstands? Could I be looking at a wrecked kitchen? I am trying…
