Apologies if this is a really stupid question. We have given Virgin 30 days notice. We are looking at getting Freesat and Saorview. We have no aerial or dish.
My question is do we just need dish and aerial anf tune channels into tv? Or do we need a box?
Any recommendations of companies who cover south dublin would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Well firstly, does your TV have an internal sat tuner ? If not, then you need a box. You say freesat but do you mean FTA ? If the latter, then a simple combo box, antenna and dish will get you sorted. You can pay anything depending on the type of box you want; that is really dictated by your budget.

You could do a lot worse than this at £79.

Freesat is slick, with hassle free plug and play boxes. Auto-update of channels, etc. That said, a decent enigma based box will perform perfectly with FTA/saorview. Just takes a little time to setup. If your TV has integrated satellite tuner, you will have a F connector at the back of the TV, most likely names SATELLITE on the input. Becoming more common in newer TVs but I'd guess yours does not have it. Post the model number and we will know for sure.

RE: satellite dish/antenna installation, where are you based ?

FreeSat is branded software that automatically arranges channels in a logical order and provides a 7 day EPG. Free to air (FTA) is the same satellite channels but without any sorting and usually only a now/next EPG.

    EDIT: Snap Dodzy :)

Also interested in this, based in Dublin north city. My tv is a LG 49UH661V, which appears to be Saorview approved. I would like to get Freesat and Saorview. If I buy a Freesat box, do I need to get a dish/aerial installed?

I think that's an integrated satellite tuner so you will get by without any extra box. You will need antenna & dish along with relevant cabling as an absolute minimum.

Neither are SAT capable. You'll need 2 combo boxes.

Some LG sets are Freesat compatible if you choose country=UK during initial setup.
