Advice on log homes in Ireland please

    Hi,

I am looking at putting a log home on a site beside the family home as our primary residence, the site is in co.wicklow so planning etc can be a bit stringent to say the least.

I am looking for some advice on reputable companies that deliver quality.

Also on the step by step process of changing the land over from my parents name into mine ( I have applied for a land registry map as my very first step )

Is step two to look for an architect and solicitor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Planning permission unlikely. Building regs difficult to meet. Many threads. Suggest search.

What is your reasoning for a log home?
Is it the perceived thought that they are cheaper to build?
If so, then you are wrong.

You don't need to have the land in your own name in order to get planning, just a letter from the land owner.

I wouldn't even bother going down the route of solicitor until you have planning permission in your hand (other than ensuring there are no legal barriers to a future land split)

As you said, planning in Wicklow is notoriously difficult, so I'd say Step 1 is to get a pre-planning meeting to scope out your options.

My husband and I were looking for a modest home recently and one of the candidates was a really quite lovely log home built close to an existing home. We were ready to jump when the agent said, "it doesn't have proper planning permission". We could have paid cash for it. Now we know why.

    OP
the arch should attend any pre-planning
