I'm looking for some advice planning on buying a 09-11 Skoda Octavia or a Toyota avensis. Planning on spending max €7.5k. What are your personal experience with these cars or any advice at all? Diesel vs petrol on the Skoda? Etc also what do you think of the insignia?
    Much appreciated

What's your own first preference? What sort of kms will you be doing with the car? Personally if i was looking for a car of that year/size It would be a well serviced, well looked after diesel Avensis... But that just me.... Diesel might not suit you.

I had an Octavia petrol 1.4 for 2 years and changed it for an Avensis petrol 1.8 which I have had for 6 year. The Octavia was a very unreliable car I had a leaking windscreen, passenger door locked shut, 2 X coil pack failures, heater blower burned out, headlight level adjustment motor fail, back window wiper fail.
The Avensis trouble with a knock on the steering column, otherwise everything works at 120,000 miles it still does not use oil.
I always stick to the service schedule before the due 15,000 km and use good oil

It will be 90% city driving maybe 8000km a year roughly. I was actually swaying towards the petrol Octavia because of this also never had a diesel before so not sure what to expect. Would the diesel avensis be suitable for city driving? Any other advice welcome thanks for the replies

Petrol would suit you better if that's the case... Some nice high spec petrol Avensis cars for sale right now of that age.

The OP doesn't seem to know. That's why I posted it.

I didn't see the post above mine spelling it out when I wrote it though.

What's the opinions on a 10/11 Ford Mondeo 1.8 diesel

The 09-11 Octavia is the dullest bland looking car ever (they have improved considerably since that model) I'd be going for a petrol Avensis if in your situation.
