Do I Have to Make a Doctors Appointment to get a Chest X-Ray?

Just curious. Do you have to make an appointment to see your doctor to get a chest X-ray or other medical stuff? Or can you arrange to get a chest X ray yourself if you're worried about something? Even if you have to pay for it, that doesn't bother me.
