Cleaning a weeping wound?

Hi, my frenchie got a nasty infection at his tail stump, the vet put him under, shaved and cleaned the area yesterday at lunchtime, administered topical meds and gave me anti inflamitories and antibiotics, he said the infection would dry up due to steroids but it hasn't, it's still weeping and the area is getting crusty, the vet said to leave it alone altogether but as I said he thought it would have dried out, naturally the dog won't let me near the area and I don't want to start scrubbing it anyway, it's still raw, should I bathe him? My concern is that the cause of the infection was due to moisture trapped in the tail pocket area, if I wash him, I won't be able to dry the area off due to the pain, any thoughts? Will I leave it be and let the meds work? Any advice welcome, thanks

Leave it be as the vet advised. If you are still concerned, ring the vet in the am.

Wounds can take 24 to 48 hrs to begin drying out & the antibiotics are for bacterial prevention so please do not bathe him or the wound.

Do you have a cone to keep him from licking it? If not, get one ASAP.

It may be that in a few days you could put some Manuka Honey on it, but you’ll need to give it some time for the meds to work and keep him from licking it.

Cheers thanks, I've been advised to try at least sprinkle some hibiscrub solution on it by a trainee vet I know, ill monitor it for the day before I do anything, they said it will just reinfect with all the discharge going crusty on it, he was given a cone but I've taken it off, it's pointless, he cannot reach his tail at all, thanks

    Leave it alone op.
From one who has far too much experience of wound management, leave it alone! :o
