I passed my theory test last week and now need to apply for my learner's permit. I can't find a straight answer anywhere about the eyesight report form. I currently wear glasses and would definitely need them to drive. Do I need to sit another eye test or can my optician just fill in the form as I already have an active prescription (last test was a year ago)?

The eye test must have been done in the last 30 days for it to be valid

So even though I already wear glasses, my prescription is active, I still need to have an eye test before applying for a permit?

The basic purpose of the eyesight report is to have the optician declare that you, as a first time applicant, meet the required standard to hold a learner permit regardless of whether you need glasses or not. You won't need to provide this proof again as long as your medical and eye health remain the same.

The eye sight test will only be conducted again if you are the holder of a group 2 licence, C,D,E categories.

Well, the medical report incorporates the lenses question and the doctor's core responsibility is to declare a driver healthy for a subsequent period ahead, including eye health. That means that a separate eyesight report is not necessary as long as the doctor is happy to make the declaration on eye health and the requirement for lenses.

Occasionally, a doctor will request a patient attend an optician for the eyesight report (basically to supplement the medical report) for some reason and they will abstain from answering the lenses question on the medical report. However, it's the doctor's prerogative to answer the lenses question or to send you for a separate eyesight report.

Basically, the only way a driver would need to provide an eyesight report is to remove the '01' restriction [needs to wear lenses to drive] is if they've had laser surgery and no longer need glasses.
