A guy in toughers just revved my car to 5000 blew my centre ignition coil of 3 and said sorry don't know what's wrong. Needs a retest. Can't get the emissions reading. He said I just brought it up to 2500rpm. Feckin liar. He revved the lard out of it. At least 4500rpm. I could hear it next door. I know a healthy engine should allow this but pain in the ass.

Had to inch the car home at 20km/hr and in second gear. Retest required. No apologies.

It should have withstood revs like that and was well on its way out , I'd say change all 4 and plugs too.

    5000rpm?
Is that in red in your car?

I know some of the old Seat’s go into the red st 4500, other than them I’m not aware of any others.

Looking at the rev counter in my Megane and it red lines at 6250 out of 7000.

5000rpm is in red on my car. I'm not annoyed about retest. I'm annoyed about the lies and the fact he said it might be water damage from cleaning the car before test. He hadn't a clue. And I was bricking it driving 8km home wondering if he had overstressed the timing chain. All ended well I suppose.

Who would want to be an NCT tester....

    Is this thread a joke?

The guys In my experience are trying to get it to pass the emissions test. They generally have to rev the bejesus out of mine to get it to pass.

Last time I failed the guy came back to me with the alternator belt in his hand for me. It was perished and shot to hell. I drove home, got it repaired, got it retested (with massive revving) and got my pass. Safe for another year.
