Was thinking about it after and 50 might be a lot for some people but I think I'd be able to add another 50 without too much hassle.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

Great list, there's a few subs I would make to it, but a lot of it would be in mine.

I'll put some thought into it and get back to you on it.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,875 Mod ✭✭✭✭iamstop

The Antidote is one of the greatest albums ever. For a long album, packed with songs, there is no skipping of songs.

Which brings us on to The Alkoholiks, Coast II Coast is a monster of a boombox album, Tash is one of the most under-rated.

    Great list Space Coyote.

I like how you've a good amount of DJ/Producer albums on there. Also noticed the alphabetized aspect. Nice 1.

Yeah, as I said I had it up around the 60+ albums & did some chopping, which threw my alphabetisation out a little :D

I think people can ignore the DJ/Producer albums in some cases, as it can feel like a bit of a cheat when picking best album lists, but if an album is solid start to finish, I'm not one to judge!

    Another few I thought about
Terminator X and the Godfathers of Threat
    Various - Deep Concentration
Various - Return of the DJ Vol 1, 2 and 4
Brand Nubian - Everything is everything
    Spice 1 - 187 He Wrote
MC Eiht - We Come Strapped

Yeah, might have to up it to 100, lol.

Deadringer is a cracker of an album. FYI The Horror EP has some quality mixes of some of the tracks from it on there

The Horror has also been pulled out to listen to. I actually like it a bit more than Deadringer.

If you're in an RJD2 kind of mood, can I recommend Mike Relm's album Spectacle to you. Its not identical, but a similar feel. Mostly instrumental stuff. There are a few good featured artists on there like Del, Gift Of Gab, Mr Lif. Some of it feels a bit more Electronica than Hip Hop.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,734 Mod ✭✭✭✭Boom_Bap

    I'll get on that.

I also dug out a few more instrumental albums last night by SixToo that I haven't listened to in a long long time. Not sure if they are boom box worthy though.

If you're looking for decent mixes, check out:

Cut Chemist And Nu-Mark ‎– Live At The Variety Arts Center, 1997

It can be found pretty handily online. Its a super set.

DJ Spinbad has piles of sets on here for free download too:

    http://www.spinbad.com/music/

Also worth a look are a couple of the Nextmen mixes:

    A Childs Introduction to Jazz
All The Way Live From the Newsroom
    Personal Golf Instructions
    Friends & Family
    The Anxiety Mix

Girl Talk has some serious mash-up stuff too, maybe a little broader than just Hip Hop stuff, but really worth a listen. You'll pick up little bits & pieces with every listen, theres so much in there on them:

    All Day
    Feed The Animals

For some more old funk/soul breaks:

    Boca 45 - Boca's Jukebox
The 45 Midgets - The Crunch
Peanut Butter Wolf - Jukebox 45s
Dj Shadow & Cut Chemist - Product Placement

Moreso remixes than a mixtape, but some great stuff on them:

PopChop - Cut The F*ck Up (mashes up Hip Hop with 80s classics, for example Notorious BIG mashed with Madonna)
PopChop - Cut Up or Shut Up (mashes up Hip Hop vs 90s classics, for example Jay Z's 99 problems mashed up with The Cure)
DJ Spinbad - No More Bullsh*t Blends
Wu Tang vs The Beatles - Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers
The Beatles & Friends - Pepperland: Rhyme & Space
    DJ Ayres - Flashbacks!

The Fabric Label do mostly Dance/Electronica stuff, but occasionally get some Hip Hop artists to do sets:

Fabric Live 39 - DJ Yoda
Fabric Live 14 - DJ Spinbad
Fabric Live 26 - The Herbaliser
Fabric Live 27 - DJ Format
Fabric Live 33 - Spank Rock

Any of DJ Yodas "How to Cut & Paste...." albums (even the country one :D) & the "Unthugged..." albums with Yoda & Greenpeace

Any of The Rub "Its the Motherf*cking Remix..." albums

    Andy Smiths "Document..." mixes

Should be plenty there to keep you going for a long time
