playing back ts files from nordmende tv

    hi i have recorded some rte 1 saorview shows on usb using a nordmende tv,
    they will playback ok on the tv but i wish to playback one on a laptop
    the files are in ts format
    i have searched here and have tried windows media player and vlc to no use
    can anyone advise me

    Vlc should work. Can you send a screenshot of what happens when you try to open the file?

    If VLC can't open them it's possible they are encrypted to only work with the original set.

    They are probably too big and your laptop is having a meltdown trying to play them.

    I have seen this on old laptops where it just cannot cope. VLC's internal X264 is very hit and miss on some laptops.

    Potplayer is the best player out there by the way and its free. Give it a go.

    RTE output wont be encrypted. Running them through TSdoctor would tell you as much (it will fix them if there are errors). I'd hope that Normende havent needlessly employed DRM.

    I suspect they are protected and only playable on the original device/TV.

    They shouldnt be unless flagged by the broadcaster. RTE dont do this AFAIK.

    As I said download TSdoctor. There is a trial version. It will tell you whether its protected.

    And if it does say its encrypted ask Normende why kalcsu@kal.ie

    There is an extra bracket at the end of the URL which mucks things up ;)

    Since it’s a Vestel-based TV it probably has the same DRM as the Walker boxes. I could never get recordings from the WP645TS-HD to play on anything but the box that recorded it.
