I'm not any sort of expert but I did some research into action cams before a holiday to South Africa where we were going to be doing lots of adventure activities and I went for the Olfi one.five. http://www.olfi.co.uk/

I thought it was super! It's very easy to use, the underwater mode got some excellent close ups of sharks! It comes with a fair few accessories but it actually will work with GoPro accessories too so I got myself a kit with some harnesses and they all fit great. It got great coverage of a bungee jump just on a wrist strap and great audio too even though it was in its plastic casing at the time. Has a good burst mode too which was handy.

As I said, I don't really know much about cameras or action cams but I think this is a great bit of kit and for a very reasonable price! It's about half the price of a GoPro if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't have a keen enough interest to give any negatives. The battery life probably could have been longer but tbh it was always charged when I needed it!

A reviewer on Amazon identified this camera as a rebranded SJCAM M20. £89 rather than £150.

    Might go for that.

Too late for me obviously but if it's the case then you really would be getting a great little camera for a super price!

Sorry you missed it! In the same boat as keanno25, looking for a GoPro alternative. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've got the Xiaomi Yi Action camera - there are two versions - the 2k one and the 4k one.

I have the 2k One. I would highly recommend it. only thing is you need to buy the extras like the helmet or chest mounts and the waterproof cases but TBH at the price its very good. there is wifi cabability on it and you can download clips to your phone and use your phone to set up and see what the camera sees too. It does timelapse and takes pics too.

    white

    or black

You can get straps and mounts for it fairly cheap on ebay - including the waterproof case for about a fiver - does take a while to deliver though.

I actually ended up buying a back screen and bigger battery which came with a waterproof case to accommodate either the bigger battery or the screen. got one similar to this:

    https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Waterproof-Case-Lcd-Display-Backup-Battery-AAccessorie-s-Set-for-Xiaomi-Yi-Sopr/322844798052?hash=item4b2b0cac64:g:o1kAAOSwETJZ7vjI

Reviews of the extended battery case and screen for the Yi 2k here:
    https://pevly.com/xiaomi-yi-lcd-screen/

If all that is too much hassle you could just splash out on the 4k version - but again it doesn't have the extended battery, but has extras like 4k and image stabilisation and already has the screen on the back.

the 2k one suits me fine - and I ended up getting a second one. Make sure to get the international versions if you do decide to go with either of the Yi cameras as they we originally released for the chinese market and come in a chinese version which tends to be a good bit cheaper - and a funny green and yellow colour.

Did anyone go for an SJCAM M20? I have an SJCAM4000 but its getting a bit old now so wouldnt mind an upgrade as i've a few trips coming up. Is there anything better in the price range?

What did go for in the end OP?

Know a lad with an M20, only complaint is battery life is quite limited. Quality is great though.

The poor battery is generally the case with most action cameras though?

    Its all relative.

My (2nd hand) Go Pro Session 4 gives me 90-100 minutes. His M20 gives him 40-50 mins IIRC.

What price are you getting it for? I got my session for the same price as the sj linked above... The session doesn't have 4k, but it is well spec:ed and doesn't require a waterproof case... It is already IP rated and much more portable...

The m20 can be got for around 110quid. Will have a look at the session
